I must admit, my birthday has always been kind of a big deal to me. I don’t know why. I love celebrating my birthday, receiving cards and telephone calls. Maybe it’s just my not-so-secret desire to be the center of attention. Who knows? In fairness to myself, I love celebrating other folks’ birthdays as well–so that can’t be too selfish of me!
I love being born in September. It’s the perfect month to me. I love that September has nine letters that spell it. I love that it starts with an s and ends with an -er. I could wish that it didn’t just mean seven but I can work with that! Maybe if I was born in April or in July, I would love those months as well. But, I think September is just right for my tastes. This morning, the sun is shining and a cool wind is blowing here in Pensacola. It feels like the perfect day to work outside. We have some raised beds to place, a garden design to determine and seeds to care for! What a perfect way to spend the day!
One way I always celebrate my birthday is by planting garlic. No mystical reason there. It’s just the time of the year for garlic planting (Gulf Coast gardeners: take note) and I think an easy way to do it is on my birthday! We’re redesigning (again!) the kitchen garden and hope to have a very large garlic bed this year.
So, that’s all. Just wanted to let you all know that today is my birthday. Feel free to offer me felicitations as you see fit. 🙂
OOPS! Almost forgot to add: this month is also National Honeybee Month!
